Is Former Gov. Johnson the Next Ron Paul?
By Sean Olson / Politics Notebook
Former Gov. Gary Johnson is being called the “next Ron Paul” by the national politics publication Politico.
Johnson, who served two terms as a libertarian-leaning Republican governor starting in 1995, launched his national issue-advocacy nonprofit organization, OurAmericaInitiative.com, earlier this month.
Politico, a politics Web site and news service, claims Johnson is in better position than Paul, a libertarian-minded Republican candidate from Texas who ran for president in 2008, for a run in 2012. And although Johnson has remained silent about his aspirations, Politico reports the new high-profile nonprofit ought to boost Johnson’s profile before the election.
“Johnson is starting to sound like a mad-as-hell populist with an eye cast on 2012 and the building fury aimed at Washington,” Politico reports.
