Gary Johnson, Honorary Chairman of OUR America Initiative, to Participate as Speaker/Panelist at 2010 Freedom Festival in Las Vegas
Former Governor of New Mexico to discuss limited government, marijuana legalization, lowering taxes, and other pertinent issues
July 1, 2010, Santa Fe, NM —Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico and Honorary Chairman of the OUR America Initiative, today announced he will participate in the FreedomFest event in Las Vegas from July 8th through July 10th. FreedomFest is an annual festival where free minds meet to celebrate great books, great ideas, and great thinkers” in an open-minded society. It is independent, non-partisan, and not affiliated with any organization or think tank.
During the Festival, Governor Johnson will team with Steve Forbes, Wayne Root, Peter Schiff, and others for panels that will focus on topics of freedom, independence, and finances of the United States. He will also participate in a panel sponsored by the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), entitled “Investing in the Emerging Legal Marijuana Business.”
Since the launch of OUR America in late 2009, Gary Johnson has been traveling the country, engaging the public in pertinent issues of the day, including: immigration reform, lowering taxes, cutting deficits, the failure of the War on Drugs, and advocating a return to common-sense governing. Governor Johnson recently unveiled his “Six Point Plan for Effective Immigration Reform,” where he outlined a comprehensive plan to encourage a healthy, yet safe and secure immigration system.
As Governor of New Mexico, from 1994 to 2002, Johnson was known for his common-sense business approach to governing. He eliminated New Mexico’s budget deficit, cut the rate of growth in state government in half and privatized half of the state prisons. During his term, New Mexico experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state’s history. Additionally, Governor Johnson vetoed 750 bills (which was more than all the combined vetoes of the other 49 governors in the country at the time) and thousands of line item vetoed bills.
Since the launch of OUR America, Governor Johnson has garnered significant media coverage, and has recently appeared on several prominent national news programs, including the Hannity Show, FOX News, FOX Business Network, CNBC, the Colbert Report, and Real Time with Bill Maher, and on radio programs around the country.
Governor Johnson will speak at FreedomFest during panels on Friday, July 9th and Saturday, July 10th, both at 11:30am, as well as at the MPP panel on Thursday, July 8th at 1:30pm.
